"Forgetting our true nature as spirit is the start of all suffering. The process of yoga is to peel back the layers of illusion until what is left is an awareness of our true nature. All Vedic knowledge is there to help us remember." - Dr. Marc Halpern
Yoga Nidra is a state of consciousness in which our body is asleep but our mind is fully awake and aware. In yoga nidra, we experience expanded awareness in a state of deep relaxation. It is different than the "relaxation" we experience reading a book, going for a walk, watching Netflix and even sleeping. Rather, our subconscious and conscious minds are at rest, and we enter a different state of consciousness altogether; the state of yoga nidra. Alpha and Theta waves are present, which are those of the relaxation state with awareness, and deep meditation. In yoga nidra, prana (life force energy) can flow freely, removing energy blockages in the body that cause pain or discomfort. Your overall well-being will benefit from the sacred practice of yoga nidra.
There are many ways in which to enter the state of yoga nidra, and the way in which Kellen is trained and leads is that of Dr. Marc Halpern from the California College of Ayurveda. His method is to guide students' awareness through a detailed body scan. Lying in savasana (corpse pose), you remain completely still for the duration of the practice. By concentrating on the practitioner's voice, you enter into a state of deep relaxation, in turn, into the state of consciousness known as yoga nidra. In the state of yoga nidra, one has the ability to cultivate healing, as we tap into the subtle body. It is a beautiful practice; she is humbled and honored to share it with you.
